Seller's Description
1966 Jaguar E-Type Roadster Coming off of a string of LeMans wins through the 1950s, Jaguar in the 1960s produced one of the greatest sports cars of all time- the E-Type. First shown to the public in 1961, the E-Type (also known as the XKE) is widely considered one of the most beautiful cars ever produced and has the driving dynamics to match. Powered by Jaguar’s legendary, torquey dual overhead cam inline-6, the XKE was capable of a true 150 mph and could run from 0-60 mph in less than 7 seconds. What really set the E-Type apart from the other European sports cars of the era is that, when new, they were less than half the price of similar cars from Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes and in many cases, they were more capable, and faster. This Jaguar E-Type is finished in the ultimate color combination for an English sports car British Racing Green over tan leather, with a tan canvas soft top. Under the care of the same owner for nearly 20 years, this car has been very nicely kept and is the perfect car for top down summer driving. Overall the car shows very well and, although it has been resprayed at one point, it still retains some of the classic patina you would hope for on a vintage driver’s car like this. All of the chrome trim around the car is in great shape and the chrome wire wheels give a particularly upscale appearance that anyone can appreciate. On the inside, tan Connolly leather covers the seats, door panels, sills and center console which presents very nicely throughout. One of the greatest features of the Jaguar E-Type interior is the aviation inspired dashboard with a row of toggle switches and clear, white on black Smiths instrumentation to keep an eye on all of your car’s vitals. Sitting just in front of the driver is a beautiful wood rimmed steering wheel with a polished metal center with the big speedometer and tach behind it. When it comes to open air English motoring, there is no better experience than grabbing onto this wheel and the corresponding wooden shift knob and running through the gears on your favorite twisty road. Produced for 13 years, the E-Type went through numerous changes over the years- the earliest examples are the most collectible and valuable due to their low production and some unique elements only found on the first few hundred cars. That being said, although those were great, there is no denying that the mid-production Series 1 cars like this example, are the best all around E-Types ever produced. Under the long flowing hood sits the updated 4.2-liter Inline-6 with a trio of SU carburetors along the side. Although Jaguar claimed that the 4.2 had the same horsepower as the previous 3.8-rated at 256 hp- torque was up dramatically from 240 lb-ft to 286 lb-ft making it both quicker and more usable around town. Along with the 4.2-liter engine came an updated gearbox that now had synchros on all 4 gears and offered a more pleasant shift experience. The engine and gearbox on this example are improved even further by a lightened flywheel which helps the engine rev up faster. From both a driving and a looks perspective, the Jaguar E-Type is one of the most enjoyable cars you can choose to put in your garage. Loved by everyone, an E-Type will draw attention everywhere you go and that is especially the case with this car given its perfect color combination and gorgeous chrome. If you are looking for a classic car to enjoy that will be appreciated for decades to come, look no further than this beautiful E-Type.
