Seller's Description
1966 Pontiac GTOIn 1964, Pontiac started the muscle car revolution with the introduction of the GTO. By taking their small car, the Tempest, and adding a large 6.4 liter V8 up front from the full size Grand Prix, the power wars began among American manufacturers to see who could shove the most powerful motor under the hood of the smallest car. This produced some of the most exciting cars to ever come out of the United States and helped make cars from the 1960s and 1970s absolutely iconic. Originally the GTO started out as a sub-model of the Tempest but in 1966, the GTO became its own car with an all new bodystyle and many new options. This 1966 GTO is an absolutely stunning example, produced at the Fremont, CA plant in November of 1966. Ordered in the coupe bodystyle, this car is painted in Fontaine Blue and has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration at Shoreline Auto Care and presents in outstanding condition throughout. One of the first things that catches your eye when you approach this GTO is the gorgeous set of 14 Rally 1 Wheels, wrapped in Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires with white lettering. 1966 was the best selling year for the Pontiac GTO with nearly 97,000 units produced and is one of the most coveted thanks to its new curvier Coke-Bottle styling. The interior of the GTO is a special place with dual bucket seats up front, a wood applique dash and a suite of gauges all paired with a very European feeling 3-spoke steering wheel. In this GTO, the interior is finished in dark blue vinyl which was all completely refinished during the recent restoration. One of the things that made the GTO feel so sporty inside in the period was the long console that led all the way from the firewall to the back seat where the shifter sits and is finished in a nice mixture of stainless and wood. To make this driving experience more enjoyable, both power steering and power brakes are installed and make the car just a dream behind the wheel.Where the GTO really sets itself apart is the powerful 389 cubic inch V8 under the hood. The engine selection in this car produces 335 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque with a single 4bbl carburetor on top that has a performance air cleaner which was added during the restoration. Thanks to the restoration carried out by Shoreline Auto Care, which included a full engine rebuild, the engine bay is absolutely spotless and looks as good as if it just rolled out of the showroom yesterday. Backing up this V8 is a 3-speed Turbo-Hydra-Matic automatic gearbox that shifts smoothly and is controlled by a great looking floor shifter between the front seats. The Pontiac GTO is a seminal vehicle in the world of muscle cars and finding one in this condition, with a restoration already completed isn't easy. Given that the restoration was completed over 2 years ago, all of the typical post-restoration teething issues have been sorted and it is ready to get behind the wheel and hit the road. If you have been looking for a fun muscle car for summer that is ready to drive and enjoy, it's hard to imagine a better option than this GTO.Watch a walkaround video here...Additional Information * Restoration Invoices * Some Original Parts IncludedStandard Features * 389ci V8 * 3-Speed Manual Transmission * Solid Rear Axle * 4-Wheel Drum Brakes * Bucket Seats * Rear Bench Seat * Steel Wheels With Hubcaps * Dual Exit Exhaust * Full Gauge SuiteFor more information on this 1966 Pontiac GTO or any of our 150+ High-Performance, Exotic, Luxury, and Special Interest Cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
