Seller's Description
1992 Pontiac Trans Am ConvertibleONLY 6,110 Original MilesThe late 1980s saw a muscle car revolution in the United States- with engines finally gaining power after the smog choked 1970s, cars like the Fox Body Mustang and F-Body Camaro and Trans-Am finally provided some exciting, reasonably priced options for American enthusiasts. These cars offered unique styling which has now become classic, and was paired with better handling and reliability than their 1960s predecessors. In recent years, the collectability of these cars has been on the rise and finding a clean example is not easy to do.This 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible is an absolutely stunning example of the best of these 1980/1990s muscle cars. Representing the final year of the angular Trans Am body style, this car shows a mere 6,110 miles from new and is in near showroom condition throughout. Although the convertible variant was offered at the dealership, the work to put on a cloth roof was carried out by ASC (American Sunroof Company) who were masters of engineering convertible top solutions for cars in the era. As many people were waiting for the new design to come on sale in 1993, the 1992 Trans Ams are especially rare- with only 663 convertible examples produced for the year.Sold new in Pittsburgh, PA in August of 1992, this Trans Am has only had four owners over its 31 year life and was most recently purchased out of the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois late last year. Finished in Bright Red over a black leather interior, the car is exceptional to behold in person and was optioned to the hilt when new. As has always been the case with American muscle cars, it's really all about how you spec them from the factory- and this car had all of the right boxes checked- starting with the WS6 Handling Package. This package makes the car handle as good as it looks and when selected, fitted the car with stiffer springs, four wheel disc brakes, a limited slip differential, thicker anti-roll bars and a quick ratio steering rack- all of which are essential features and turn this muscle car into a sports car behind the wheel. Additionally, a set of 16 Diamond Spoke alloy wheels were optioned- designed in a similar style to the infamous BBS basketweave wheels, these lightweight units feature a black face and polished lip with a deep dish on them, giving the car an almost European aesthetic.Additionally, as a Trans Am, this car was equipped with the LB9 engine option- a TPI 5.0-liter V8 with fuel injection that was capable of producing 205 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque which provides plenty of get up and go and is easily able to spin the tires on command. This engine is connected to a 4-speed automatic gearbox which offers smooth shifting and makes it a breeze to drive around town. What is so remarkable about the interior of this car is the overall condition- when you open the door, all of the leather and plastic retains the factory matte finish thanks to its limited use, and there isn't even any perceptible wear on the seats! This was likely one of the final cars to come out of General Motors with a very classic looking square dashboard with individually placed round gauges- for the next generation Trans Am, everything became much rounder and the gauge cluster was all in a singular unit. When you sit down into the driver's seat and peer through the airbag steering wheel, the gray gauges feature a unique graph-paper like design on the background that is really peak 1980s and still looks great today. It is rare to find a Trans Am like this that retains Delco stereo with cassette and graphic equalizer in the center console but it is present and accounted for in this example. Also, this car features all of the common convenience features you would expect in a sports car of this era including power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and cruise control. In recent years, cars from the 1980s and 1990s have really come into their own as collector vehicles and the American muscle cars are no exception. For a long time, these cars didn't get the appreciation they deserved and many were abused by careless owners who just wanted some cheap performance. This means that as time has gone along, finding one in good condition is near impossible and finding one like this, in near showroom condition, is even more difficult. If you are an enthusiast who owned one of these cars in the past, or dreamed about buying one when you were in high school but just didn't have the money, this is the perfect opportunity to relive that dream and get the nearly new 31 year old muscle car of your dreams.Watch a walkaround video here...Features * 5.0-Liter TPI V8 Engine * 205 Horsepower * 285 Lb-Ft of Torque * 4-Speed Automatic * 700R4 * Black Cloth Soft Top * Power Brakes * Power Steering * Air Conditioning * Front Bucket Seats * Folding Rear Seats * Concealed Halogen Headlamps * Power Windows * Power Door Locks * Power Driver Mirror * Power Antenna * Delco Stereo * Integrated Decklid SpoilerFor more information on this 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible, or any of our 20+ Roadsters, Cabriolets, Convertibles, Drop-Tops, and Volantes always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants today or always feel free to drop by our Park Place Center in Bellevue, WA - Home to the West Coast's Most Diverse Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, Collectible and Special Interest Automobiles.
