Seller's Description
1948 Cadillac Series 62 SedanSome cars just need to be seen to be truly appreciated and this Series 62 Cadillac is the perfect embodiment of that idea. At car shows across the country, you can find very nice restorations carried out on Series 62 coupes and convertibles but the enthusiast who restores a sedan to this extent clearly has a strong personal tie to the car- and that is exactly the case with this example. The 1948 Series 62 was the first all new Cadillac produced after World War II and represented the pinnacle of American quality at the time. With an all new design featuring an early example of the soon-to-be ubiquitous tailfins-inspired by a Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter plane- the Series 62 was a design sensation that accounted for 68% of Cadillac's sales its first year on the market. This Series 62 Sedan was sold new at Sax Motors in Dickinson, North Dakota to a farmer who lived very modestly but loved dressing well and driving a beautiful car. He enjoyed driving the car all over and the two were inextricably linked in small town North Dakota where the car was affectionately referred to as his tank. Even after the farmer passed away, it remained within the family for decades and ultimately made its way to Washington for the first time in the 2000s, under the care of the original owner's great niece. After hearing that her father-who was in possession of the car at the time- planned to sell it to his local Cadillac dealership for $3,000, they determined that instead of doing that, the car would be treated to a comprehensive restoration to turn it into an absolute show stopper.Once the Series 62 arrived on the west coast, it was transported to Moslander's in Monroe, WA for the restoration to begin. Even more than 50 years after the car rolled out of the showroom, it was a largely complete example and very few parts needed to be purchased for the restoration. That being said, as with many high quality restoration, the costs quickly eclipsed the value of the car- with receipts totaling over $140,000 in parts and labor- but for the owners, the cost did not matter, they wanted the nicest Cadillac Series 62 Sedan anywhere. From the deep Amherst Blue paint and body, to the chrome to the two-tone Gray Bedford Cord and Blue Plain Broadcloth interior, every single aspect of this car has been lovingly and expertly refinished with the result being a car that looks as good-if not better-than the day it was purchased.During the restoration, the owners elected to update some features on the car to make it more usable and enjoyable to drive. Firstly, a set of power disc brakes were installed in front which are essential to slowing a big car like this down but are seamlessly integrated and not noticeable when looking at the vehicle. The 346ci flathead V8 didn't come from the factory with an oil filter, so a more modern unit was added but is not immediately apparent when you open the hood. A newer model automatic gearbox was installed which has recently undergone work to ensure the smoothest possible shifts and is far more reliable than the gearbox that was originally fitted to the car. The engine electrical system was converted from 6-volt to 12-volt with an alternator that you won't notice under the hood unless you really look-giving the car a largely original appearance when the hood is up. On the interior, seatbelts were installed for safe touring and a CD head unit was elegantly installed in a console under the dashboard. Although clearly not an original piece, the head unit and high end speaker system were thoughtfully placed around the cabin and don't look out of place, while also providing great sound if you elect to take this car on long tours or road trips. The restoration was completed in 2004 and the car hit the show circuit where it was awarded numerous Best in Class awards over the years. It is estimated that since the restoration was completed, the car has logged less than 2,200 miles but it still starts and runs exceptionally. This Cadillac is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best examples of its kind, anywhere in the world and if you wanted to take it back out on the show circuit tomorrow, it would be a serious contender. If you are looking for a truly regal classic car to enjoy with all of your friends and family, finding a better car than this Cadillac Series 62 Sedan will be difficult.Key Updates * Upgraded Front Suspension * CD/Radio Head Unit * Integrated Speaker System * Oil Filter * Modern GM Automatic Gearbox * 12-Volt Conversion * Alternator * Front Power Disc Brakes * Seat Belts * Remote LocksAdditional Information * Numerous Receipts * Kirkland Concours PlacardStandard Features * 346ci L-Head V8 * 150 Horsepower * 2bbl Carburetor * 4-Speed Hydramatic Transmission * Sombrero Wheel Covers * Chrome Bumpers * Back-Up Lamps * Windshield Washers * Windshield Visor * Dual Exterior Rearview Mirrors * F&R Wing Windows * Glare-Proof Rear View Mirror * Dash Mounted Map Light * Rear Fold Down Armrest * Front and Rear Ashtrays * ClockFor more information on this 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to stop by our Bellevue, WA Park Place Ltd campus - where we have over 40,000 sq ft of indoor showrooms filled with the finest cars.
